Library Backs Cards For All In Rosemont

The path is now partially paved for all village of Rosemont residents to be eligible to obtain cards to the Des Plaines Public Library with the Illinois secretary of state, Alexi Giannoulias, having the final say.

Des Plaines Library Board members on Dec. 21 approved a request by the village of Rosemont to support a proposal that would allow residents who reside anywhere in the village to obtain a library card after paying a $226 non-resident fee. The village’s request was due to the fact that most Rosemont residents seeking a library card could only apply at the Schiller Park Library because it is located within Leyden Township. Residents who live north of Devon Avenue reside in Maine Township and because of that they can obtain Des Plaines Library cards.

Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens is seeking the secretary of state’s approval citing the fact that Des Plaines’ library is larger than Schiller Park’s and has more to offer in items to check out and services for the public.
