Dunne Gym Open During Construction
Rosemont’s Dunne Park Recreation Center gymnasium, which held a soft opening on Veterans Day Nov. 11, is open to residents from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 4 to 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Although the new recreation center, 9401 Glenlake St., is not complete as construction continues on several rooms, the gym is open.
The new center is the same size as the Rosemont Recreation Center on Barry Street. It includes a full gym with games and an electronic scoreboard. Once the new basketball backstops are installed (expected to be done Monday, Jan. 16) in the gym, residents will be able to shoot hoops on the full court.
To the right of the registration desk is a brightly lit hallway that leads to an activity room with a fireplace. Just up the stairs, and still under construction, is the “gathering room” complete with its existing Bavarian decor, light fixtures, old beams and furniture.
The room is part of the existing park warming house, a small structure previously used by ice skaters. On the second floor is a banquet room.
Residents can stop in during the park’s open hours to obtain a new park district ID which allows entrance to various facilities.
Park officials say from February on, Dunne Park will be open Saturday hours when Rosemont Elementary School is closed for a holiday.
The new rec center was estimated to have cost the village $3,551,083. Construction began last spring. A grand opening will be scheduled once construction is complete.
