Frozen Olaf Tops At Ice Carving Competition

Ice carver David Smith, of Columbus, OH, won first place in the Saturday, Jan. 9, "Frozemont" Ice Carving Competition for his depiction of a surfing Olaf from the Disney movie "Frozen."

Other winners were Jeff Kaiser, who earned second place for "Mickey Mouse on Sleigh"; third place for Dean Murray for "Goofy on Skates" and fourth place to Dan Rebholz for "Elsa and Anna Frozen."
     
Over 100 people voted for their favorite piece after artists participated in the ice carving competition at MB Financial Park. The event was held in the park from 3 to 6 p.m. in a tent next to the ice skating rink.

Smith, a Columbus Culinary Institute graduate, has appeared on Food Network’s “Cake Wars Christmas.”

Rosemont officials say plans are underway for next year’s ice carving event which is expected to be “bigger and better.”
