benefits

Families and the rest of the Rosemont Elementary School community took over The Dome at the Ballpark on Rosemont's west side for Friday's "Family Fun Night".

The Cubs vs. White Sox-themed fundraiser included raffle prizes, a homerun derby teacher/student dunk tank, inflatables, softball games, food, drinks and music. Nearly 40 vendors took part in the vendor fair.

Rosemont School teachers presented a check for $5,385 to the school's Benefit Club. Funds raised will help pay for the eighth graders' annual field trip to Washington, D.C. (Students left this week.)

Benefit Club President Vanessa Cooper estimated that at least 600 attended the event.

The faculty won the softball game against the eighth graders, 10 to 5, reported Supt. Kevin Anderson.

"It was really a fun night," Anderson added.

For those interested in helping with the fund drive, copies of the Benefit Club cookbook, $10 each, are still available at the school office; all proceeds go the the trip fund.
