New Year’s 2014 is an especially golden celebration, thanks to the incredible accomplishments Rosemont has made in the past year.
We made more progress in 2013, than in any other year in our town’s history, except for 1956, when Rosemont was founded. With a record half-billion dollars in commercial development in the past six years, the creation of thousands of jobs and the hosting of hundreds of thousands of new visitors, we are changing the face of Rosemont.
Last year, we celebrated the completion of numerous facilities in MB Financial Park at Rosemont, as well as the phenomenal Fashion Outlets of Chicago (FOC) in Rosemont. Not only does FOC offer affordable designer merchandise, but the mall has contributed to our quality of life with its 11 major art installations, so significant that they spurred an hour-long special on a local PBS station.
The Big Ten conference recently moved into the new, 50,000 square-foot office building in MB Financial Park; in addition to its offices, it will bring its 3,000 square-foot, interactive museum and conference facility. A new restaurant and MB Financial Park’s management office also are occupying space in the building.
We partnered with PACE and added two new free bus routes, and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), began the reconstruction of Mannheim Road, which is expected to be completed by September.
Of course, we continue the successful operation of the Allstate Arena, the Rosemont Theatre, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont Health & Fitness and the Ballpark at Rosemont, including the Dome at the Ballpark and Rosemont Stadium.
This year, we look forward to the grand opening of the i Fly Indoor Skydiving attraction around Valentine’s Day, just in time to take your sweetheart on a whole new thrill ride.
The most visible development in the coming year is the new 180,000 square-foot office building, with a multi-level garage, and a 155-room hotel complex, all under construction on the northwest corner of River and Higgins Roads.
While we celebrate a remarkable 2013, we look forward to a busy 2014, and thank you for all your hard work and support in helping Rosemont continue to grow and improve.
My family joins me in wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!
