New Rosemont Skybridge Update

As officials and shopping center owners prepare for the opening of the new 130-store Fashion Outlets Chicago mall in Rosemont, plans are also being made to construct a new overhead skybridge linking the 530,000 sq. ft. facility with the huge village-owned parking garage next to MB Financial Park.
According to Mayor Brad Stephens, construction of the skybridge could begin this year and completed in 2014.
Several months ago, the village applied for a $1 million state grant to help fund the project. It also approved a resolution stating that the remaining cost of the skybridge would be paid for by Rosemont. Stephens estimated that the total pricetag of the project could reach $9 to $10 million.
The enclosed, climate-controlled walkway would be similar to the series of skybridges that’s been in place for years that connect several Rosemont hotels with the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. This newest project would connect the outlet mall’s new 2,820-car parking deck with the 8,500-car William Street parking garage that’s located just east of MB Financial Park at Rosemont. Shoppers and visitors to the entertainment district could park in either lot. It would be a short walk from one garage to the other.
