DESCC Undergoes Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

In 1975, the 150,000 square-foot building called the O’Hare Exposition Center opened and hosted 16 tradeshows in its first year of operation. Nearly four decades later, the same building, now known internationally as the Donald E. Stephens Convention and Conference Center, is nearly one million square feet and welcomes approximately 1.35 million visitors annually to more than 100 tradeshows, conventions, meetings and expositions.

Since the celebrated groundbreaking of a new 820,000 sq. ft. multi-million dollar cargo center on land near Mannheim and Higgins roads across from Rosemont and Des Plaines at O’Hare Airport nine months ago, not much else has happened in the way of construction.

When one opens the gate to the Rosemont community garden located at the Barry Street Recreation Center now you have to walk carefully through the throngs of vegetables including 10 foot high corn stalks and almost ready to be harvested peppers, onions, cucumbers, strawberries and tomatoes.
