There’s a corridor in Rosemont that today takes on the look of a clean, wide boulevard used on a daily basis by a modest number of vehicles.
The four-lane roadway known as Balmoral Avenue connects River Road near the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center west over the Tri-State Tollway to village property to the west.
At the corner of Balmoral and River Road, the handsome looking Rosemont Theater stands at the southwest corner while the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel rises at the northwest corner. To the east is the Stephens Convention Center.
Major changes designed to quench the taste buds of shoppers, office workers, convention-goers and people looking to unwind are in store for property along that half-mile stretch of Balmoral. Once in place those changes will catapult Rosemont into the stratosphere of entertainment and convention venues making it one of the best places to visit anywhere in the country.
Interested? Want to hear more? If so, here’s what Arthur Weiner president of AWE Talisman of Coral Gables, FL has to say. His company is in the process of completing architectural drawings of a new 550,000 sq. ft. two-story outlet mall and adjacent five-story parking garage on now vacant land just west of the Rosemont Theater and Intercontinental Hotel.
“Things are going remarkably well,” remarked Mr. Weiner recently. He explained that groundbreaking on what will undoubtedly become one the nation’s finest shopping gems will be held later this year with a planned opening around the Christmas 2012 holidays.
Work securing a “significant number of leases” is already in place. The fact that the outlet mall will be located in a highly-visible area such as Rosemont---not in a rural setting like many such malls are---along with O’Hare Airport being just a stone’s throw away, one could conclude that the future couldn’t’ be any brighter.
Add to all of this plans to extend Balmoral Avenue to Bessie Coleman Drive leading into and out of O’Hare, the adage “If you build it, they will come”, from the popular move “Field of Dreams” rings as true and as loud as ever.
Couple Mr. Weiner’s outlet mall with The Park at Rosemont entertainment development that will open in early 2012 on property north of Balmoral, several major road construction projects that will direct people to that area, and the arrival of hundreds of new workers in office building such as Lifesource and Cisco, the days ahead for Rosemont look as shiny and positive as ever.
The little road is about to grow up.
