With summer just around the corner, things continue to heat up in the village of Rosemont.
As we’ve chronicled in recent months, construction of the new Rosemont Stadium and The Park at Rosemont entertainment district are quickly moving forward helping to elevate our village into an even more standout mecca of business and family fun and entertainment. The stadium, which the Chicago Bandits professional women’s softball team now calls home, was ready to host a full schedule of spring and summer games as of June 1. The 2,000-seat arena is located at the corner of Pearl Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue on the west side of the Tri-State Tollway. Across I-294 lies the site where the new, five-building and outdoor plaza entertainment district will be located. Currently, steel beams are being put in place in preparation for a pre-Thanksgiving opening just south of the Muvico Theater. Slated to occupy highly-visible space there is a Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant, Lansdowne Irish Pub and a King’s Bowling Center. Additional venues will soon be announced as well.
If that isn’t enough, we’re now delighted to report that major progress is being made on the development of a new 200-store fashion outlet mall only a few blocks south of The Park at Rosemont. Plans are moving forward to build a two-level, 550,000 sq. ft. upscale retail center on village-owned property immediately south of Balmoral Avenue and east of the Tri-State Tollway. On May 5, a formal red-carpet groundbreaking reception and groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site marking the beginning of construction of the new $14 million Balmoral exit ramp that will direct traffic off the interstate into Rosemont where visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a sporting event, attend a convention, dine at a fine restaurant, stay at a top-flight hotel or---shop ‘til they drop when new mall opens within 14 months from the start of the construction.
Specific plans for the mall itself call for its construction on 9.9-acres of now empty land west of the Rosemont Theater. Next to it, a multi-level parking garage will be built. Site preparation and foundation work could begin as early as this October. The $230 million project is a joint venture of Coral Gables, Fla.-based developer AWE Talisman LLC and Chicago-based Silver Rock Development Group LLC.
