While we all agree that issues like foreign policy, protecting the environment and fighting crime are vitally important to our national well being, there are other matters that have a more direct and profound effect on our day-to-day lives and that of our friends and neighbors.
Of course, no other issue affects each and every one of us more than the economy. A strong economy means we can afford the things we need for our survival like food, shelter and clothing. It also means our worries are lessened when it comes to educating our children and affording to take a week or two off to spend quality time with our family.
Look around Rosemont and you’ll see examples of a strong local economy. At the north end of town, the Allstate Arena continues to thrive as it has for the last 31 years bringing quality sports and entertainment offerings to hundreds of thousands of people. Road improvements along Devon, Higgins and River roads continue unabated making the driving experience through town more enjoyable.
A short distance to the south, work continues at a fever pace to erect the village’s new entertainment district, The Park at Rosemont, that will feature at least a half dozen restaurants, pubs and entertainment venues. A grand opening is planned for next April. Only a few yards from there, crews are sculpting out a new Balmoral Avenue off-ramp for northbound traffic on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). Work there may be completed by Thanksgiving resulting in a much easier way for people, destined for a conference at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, a show at the Rosemont Theater, or a room at one of Rosemont’s 13 hotels, to quickly reach the village.
Other projects that serve as examples of Rosemont’s vitality include the June 1 opening of the new 2,000-seat stadium that’s home to the Chicago Bandits professional women’s softball team and the recent announcement that work will begin this fall on the construction of a new 550,000 sq. ft., 200-store fashion outlet retail mall next to the new Balmoral ramp.
Put all of this together and the story is one of progress and an all eyes forward focus.
As we all know, one of the most significant indicators of the economic vitality of a community or a nation is its ability to provide jobs. In Rosemont, within two years, the number of new jobs that will be created due to the projects now underway and new businesses, such as Lifesource and Cisco Systems that recently moved into town, will equal the entire population of our town, 4,200. Combine that with the tens of thousands of people who have called Rosemont their home away from home workplace, the future of our village could never be brighter.
