Journal Staff Report

The end of summer brings a transition at the Rosemont Park District. With Rosemont School classes resuming, public hours at the pool will be limited to weeknight evenings and Saturdays.

A training class for new lifeguards will be held Aug. 26 at the pool (the gym-school wing at Rosemont School). There is an online component, followed by Aug. 26. By the live training, all applicants must be at least 15 years old.

Contact Omar Camarillo at 847-823-6685 for more information. Barry Recreation Center, 7128 Barry, will host a Back to School day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. The family event will include inflatables, a DJ, refreshments, face painting and other activities. The back to school theme will feature school-related prizes. Last year’s event was attended by about 250 people.

The community gardens at Barry are still growing, Camarillo said, based on delayed warm weather and a lot of recent rain.

Dunne Park, 9499 Glenlake, will be offering a “Sports Blitz” on Saturday mornings for ages 5 to 12 years this fall. Within a four-hour time span, children can sign up for one or more sport: basketball, baseball, soccer and indoor track. (Sign up individually). This is a chance to experience the new opportunities in Dunne’s expanded facility.Lange Park, 6140 Scott St., will host a family Fall Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 23. Inflatables, face painting, a DJ and arts and crafts are planned. Visitors can bring their own pumpkin to decorate with paints, or play pumpkin bocce ball. This is also the date for the Kids’ Garage Sale. Local children and younger teens, under 18, must register at Lange Park in advance. A table will be provided and young people can sell their “stuff” and keep the profits.

There is no registration fee.Upcoming is a Bottles and Botega painting party on Sept, 7. This was the second of two parties scheduled this summer, and Camarillo encourages those who want to attend try the new online registration system at www.rosemontparkdistrict.com.The earlier Bottles and Botega party and a visit from the Mobile Escape Room were postponed when registration was low.
