'Super Saturday' Events, Martial Arts Classes On Tap This Fall, Winter.
Rosemont Park District officials were pleased to announce the roll out of two new classes and a special program for the fall and winter during the Aug. 11 park board meeting at Margaret J. Lange Park.
Park district Program Director Ralph Stephens said this year they will offer two new classes for youth -- martial arts and floor hockey -- and a new program called “Super Saturday”.
The new classes begin in September and the first “Super Saturday” will be Oct. 3.
“We’re really pleased to be able to offer the Super Saturday because it enables us to participate in the Rosemont community and all it has to offer,” Stephens said.
On each of the “Super Saturdays” -- Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 23, Feb. 13 and March 5 -- children that have signed up will meet at Lange Park and be transported to MB Financial Park in Rosemont where they will be scheduled to either bowl at Kings bowling alley, watch a movie at Muvico, go ice skating at the rink in the winter (the rink is setup when weather permits as part of “Frozemont” activities), and to swoosh down Polar Peak.
There is a fee involved. Transportation to and from the event is included.
“Much depends on the offerings and what is available,” Stephens said. “I believe this will be great and a lot of fun for the kids.”
Stephens said the Saturday events would begin around noon and run for a couple of hours. He said residents can call the park district at 847-823-6685 three weeks before the specific Saturday to find out the final destination.
“This is all new for us, but I know it will all work and the kids will have a great time,” Stephens said.
In addition, Stephens said they will offer two martial arts classes for youth on Thursdays. The first for those aged 4-6 will take place from 4:15 to 5 p.m. and the second for ages 7-11 years from 5:15 to 6 p.m., the same day and place, at Lange Park.
The two new floor hockey classes will be held in the gym at Rosemont Elementary School on Wednesdays. Stephens said the first class for those aged 5-7 years will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the second class for those aged 8-11 will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Stephens said floor hockey begins Sept. 23 and the martial arts classes Sept. 3.
Registration for “Super Saturday” and the two new classes began Monday, Aug. 17 for all Rosemont residents. To register one can go to the park website at rosemontparkdistrict.com and download a PDF registration form, fill it out and either drop it off at the park district offices at Lange Park or mail it in to the park district at 6140 N. Scott St. Rosemont, IL 60018.
Commissioners were pleased with the new offerings.
In other business, parks Executive Director Karen Stephens said they planned to purchase two height adjusters for side basketball rims at Rosemont School, noting the equipment helps all players and the cost is minimal.
