Leaders from the orthopedic community officially opened new orthopaedic headquarters Saturday at 9400 W. Higgins Rd. in Rosemont at the northwest corner of River and Higgins roads.
The 180,000 sq. ft. building houses the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon’s (AAOS) headquarters, more than 25 orthopaedic organizations and a state-of-the art Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC). Along with AAOS, the equity partners for the headquarters are: the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC).
“This beautiful new building, with its state-of-the-art technology and space for growth, flexibility, and distance learning to enhance patient care, represents a unified commitment to the future of orthopaedics and orthopaedic education,” said AAOS President Frederick M. Azar, MD.
“We welcome the Academy, the 25 orthopaedic organizations, and the many orthopaedic surgeons and healthcare professionals who will travel from throughout the U.S. and the world to learn the latest orthopaedic techniques in this new and beautiful space,” said Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens during Saturday’s opening. “For more than two decades, the Academy has been a good neighbor, an active member in Rosemont’s business community, and a loyal charter member of the Rosemont Chamber of Commerce.”
The Academy, its partners and tenants had exhausted the capacity at the organization’s previous headquarters at 6300 N. River Rd., also in Rosemont, and were looking to upgrade the technology, especially in the OLC. Construction on the new, energy-efficient building began in August 2013 and was completed in approximately 18 months. The new OLC is twice the size of the previous facility.
“Today, the Academy unveils the future of orthopaedics with our equity partners and other orthopaedic tenants and partners,” said AAOS CEO Karen Hackett.
