The Rosemont-based Chicago Bandits professional fastpitch softball team announced Monday, November 9th, that A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF), located in Chicago, is the team’s new official charitable partner for the 2016 season.
The Bandits play at the Ballpark at Rosemont, the only stadium in the country built for a women's professional team.
Founded in 2002, ASLF aims to provide equal access to quality cancer education and services for everyone regardless of their socioeconomic status. The foundation funds free testing at 15 partner hospitals in the Chicago area, Elgin and Rockford.
Additional ASLF programs are the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition providing cancer resource information and treatment options; the Evelyn Goldberg Mammography Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center providing breast health testing, information and resources; Survive to Thrive free diagnostic testing for breast cancer survivors; and Keep aBreast, an interactive breast cancer awareness presentation designed specifically for young women.
“A Silver Lining Foundation is delighted to become a partner with the Chicago Bandits,” Dr. Sandy Goldberg, ASLF founder and chairman, said this week. “The support and commitment of the Chicago Bandits will certainly provide uninsured and underinsured women and men with information necessary to obtain free breast health testing.”
The Bandits will donate proceeds from this year’s “Pass the Bucket” promotion, held during games, to ASLF. In addition, the Bandits Cancer Awareness Night during the 2016 season will feature a jersey raffle to raise additional funds for ASLF.
“The Bandits are very excited about the new partnership with Dr. Goldberg and A Silver Lining Foundation,” Bandits General Manager Aaron Moore said in announcing the new partner. “We’ve had people in our organization directly impacted by breast cancer, so we felt this was a perfect fit for us. We’re excited about the 2016 jersey auction and pass the bucket and we’re looking forward to partnering with such a great cause.”
Dr. Sandy Goldberg, founder of A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF), throws out the first pitch before Cancer Awareness Night at the Bandits game on July 24, 2015. ASLF is the Bandits new charitable partner.
