DHL has broken ground on a new Americas Innovation Center in Rosemont, Illinois, in a move to grow its global innovation footprint to the Americas region.
The new innovation center, which is planned to be opened in summer 2019, is expected to provide insights into the future of logistics, said DHL, a division of the German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL.
The 24,000ft² facility will showcase the technologies and innovations in logistics that the company is already putting into practice across Americas.
Besides, it will also promote the development of future logistics and supply chain solutions in addition to doubling up as a regional platform for collaborative innovation, said DHL.
It will be designed to play host to trend and innovation events while accommodating a maximum of 300 guests. The new innovation center will be equipped with high-tech features and futuristic designs apart from a striking foyer and inspiring meeting spaces, claimed DHL.
The Americas Innovation Center will also house DHL's robotics along with the company’s innovations to give customers and partners a peek into the future of logistics.
It will highlight visions of how the world and its transport infrastructure could be like in 2050. The facility will also showcase the latest technology trends in robotics and automation, self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and Internet of Things.
The Americas Innovation Center will be the third such facility for DHL after its DHL Innovation Center in Troisdorf, Germany, and the Asia Pacific Innovation Center in Singapore.
DHL SVP and innovation & commercial development head Matthias Heutger said: "With our third Innovation Center worldwide, we will be able to create a platform for research and collaborative innovation between DHL customers, start-ups, academia, industry partners, and innovation experts in the Americas region.
"This visionary innovation center will further promote and nurture our worldwide leading position as the logistics innovation frontrunner in one of our key markets. It will also help us to further build on successful partnerships that we have established with technology leaders and innovative start-ups in the region."
