In an effort to possibly draw larger events to the village, Rosemont trustees approved spending $37,102 for the installation of additional electrical power to the Dome at the Ballpark sports facility on Jennie Finch Way.
Board members June 10 approved a proposal from Arlington Heights-based Gurtz Electric to provide labor and materials to install additional power to three locations within the Dome.
Village officials note an upgrade in the power system could lead to additional events such as concerts.
“We think it’s great and could increase the number and types of events to be held here,” Frank Cargola, director of operations at the Dome, told the Journal & Topics Monday. “There is a chance that a large charity event could take place here in late summer or September. I believe it’s still in the very early planning stages though.”
Work is expected to begin soon on the upgrade, officials said.
The Dome is open year-round and has two baseball/softball diamonds and supporting facilities available for youth and adult leagues.
Opened in 2012, it has an air-suspended covering which stretches 565 feet in length by 250 feet in width, 75 feet high, Lacrosse, volleyball, 7-on-7 football and basketball events are also held at the Dome, located immediately west of The Ballpark at Rosemont.
