EarthMed, Rosemont’s first cannabis dispensary, has opened at 10441 E. Touhy Ave. Monday (Jan. 11) during a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony.
Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens and EarthMed co-founders Mike Perez and Gus Koukoutsakis will attend the opening.
The new dispensary is located near the Des Plaines/Rosemont border in Chestnut Plaza, just west of Mannheim Road. Formerly, the storefront was occupied by Racconto restaurant.
Developers from EarthMed LLC first brought a proposal for the adult use recreational cannabis dispensary before the Rosemont Zoning Board of Appeals in July. Members of the board unanimously supported the project.
This summer Rosemont village board members passed an ordinance allowing cannabis sales in the municipality. Last year, local residents said they were in favor of cannabis sales through a referendum vote.
EarthMed was granted a license to sell adult use recreational marijuana at the Rosemont site last month, according to state records. From the sales of adult recreational marijuana became legal in Illinois last January through the end of last month, more than $699 million in cannabis products have been sold in the state.
So far, the first EarthMed location in Addison has welcomed 300,000 customers, said Perez and Koukoustakis.
At EarthMed Rosemont customers over age 21 should expect to find cannabis flower, edibles, concentrates, vape pens and topical products.
EarthMed Rosemont is expected to be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
