The head of one of the largest private companies in the U.S., Koch Foods, said they are moving to Rosemont because they like what they see.

“The Mayor Bradley Stephens is doing a great job with the Village. He’s an entrepreneur,” Koch Foods Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joseph Grendys told the Journal & Topics. “We like what the mayor has done and continues to do in Rosemont.”

Rosemont Zoning Board members and Village trustees gave the green light last week for Park Ridge-based Koch Foods to build its new 45,000 sq. ft. corporate headquarters in Rosemont on a site south of Balmoral Avenue between an extended Pearl Street and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
“It is an ideal location for us,” Grendys said. “I expect we could move in between September and December 2017, once construction is complete.”

Forbes magazine ranks Koch Foods in the top 150 of the largest privately held companies in the U.S. Koch is a leading poultry processor in the U.S. with operations in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee. The company began in 1985. Koch poultry is distributed worldwide to restaurant chains, stores, schools, hospitals and grocery stores.

“Our international sales really began to take off in 1998 through 2000 and we continue to expand selling poultry to many countries,” Grendys said. “We continue to grow in the U.S. and internationally.”

The company is a major purchaser of corn and feed used for growing chickens. Company employees work with farmers here and around the country to supply feed for the millions of chickens they process each year.

Grendys was born in Chicago and recalls when the company started with three employees. Today they have more than 13,000.

“I am proud of how we have grown and of our team,” Grendys said. The Rosemont corporate office will include 40 to 60 workers when they first move in in 2017. The corporate office will house the company’s leadership along with financial, sales and marketing operations.

Koch Foods will own the Rosemont building. They do not own the Park Ridge building at 1300 W. Higgins Rd. where the company is currently located.

“We are growing so at some point in the future we may have up to 100 people working at the corporate headquarters,” Grendys told the Journal & Topics.

“We do business worldwide and certainly with our corporate offices so near to O’Hare, a major transportation hub, will be great for our customers and future customers when they come to visit us,” Grendys said. “It’s an ideal location.”

Grendys said there are no plans to take Koch Foods public.
“No, we are doing well so we don’t plan to go public,” Grendys said. “But, we are looking forward to moving to our new home in Rosemont once it is completed.”
