Rosemont’s Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. was recently honored by Best Workplaces for Commuters for the benefits it provides its employees ensuring a smooth commute.

“CBBEL is on the cutting edge of a national movement,” Julie Bond, Best Workplaces for Commuters program manager, said in a statement. “By offering a range of commuter benefits, CBBEL gives its employees the support they need to get to and from work so they can be at their best. These benefits are good for the company and its employees.”

She said CBBEL received this recognition because of their willingness to listen to their employees and work together on finding solutions for commuting problems.

Through their employee benefits, CBBEL has ensured at least 14 percent of their employees have avoided driving to work alone in the past 12 months.

“They have listened to their employees’ challenges with traffic congestion and their concerns over reducing emissions,” said Bond.

CBBEL offers a variety of commuter benefits to employees, such as a Bike to Work program. Under this program, employees receive 75 cents for each mile they bike. The program additionally helps employees find appropriate bike routes, gear and equipment.

Since the program began in 2006, more than 150 employees have taken advantage of the bike to work perks, saving 618,000 pounds of CO2 emissions.

Thanks to their Bike to Work program, CBBEL earned Platinum status in 2014 as a Bicycle Friendly Business from the League of American Bicyclists.

CBBEL also adopted an Enterprise CarShare program, which allows employees access to shared cars at work, allowing them to leave their own vehicles at home.

“At CBBEL, we’re extremely proud of our efforts toward sustainability and grateful for this recognition,” said Christopher B. Burke, president of CBBEL. “We have been at the forefront of sustainability and green initiatives and we ‘walk the walk’ when it comes to implementing them.”

The Best Workplaces for Commuters is an organization that recognizes commuter benefits programs throughout the country.
