While there are not many official solar eclipse viewing parties in Rosemont next Monday afternoon, residents have a number of local options to see the rare event, including at the Cernan Earth and Space Center at Triton Community College, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove, from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Events at Triton will feature a “Dark Side of the Moon” laser show and a live stream in the planetarium.
This is the first solar eclipse spanning the entire country in 99 years.
In the Chicago area, at about 1:30 p.m. Monday the moon will cover 86% of the sun during this solar eclipse, according to the Cernan center. All viewers are advised to keep their eyes covered with glasses specifically made for eclipse viewing to avoid permanent retina damage.
