This summer should be a busy one for construction projects in Rosemont, with the expected completion of at least three Pearl development businesses and installation of 118 new streetlights in the Scott Street subdivision.
Village board members Wednesday (Jan. 17) approved a $428,647 contract with Utility Dynamics Corp. to install a roadway and parking lot lighting system for the South Pearl Street development, part of the mixed-use development under construction at Balmoral Avenue and Pearl. A portion of the cost will be reimbursed.
Mayor Brad Stephens said Carmine’s restaurant is currently working on a $2 million buildout of its Pearl location. Construction on The Rose, a 165-room hotel, and Dave & Busters is also well underway. Both are expected to open by this summer, according to Stephens.
“I think Dave & Buster’s wants to open as soon as they can,” he said. “They are working in earnest on the inside.”
Nearby, the new 6,300-seat Impact Field minor league baseball stadium is set to open May 25.
Last spring, German logistics company DHL revealed plans to open a two-story “innovation center” in the Pearl development. However, the company has chosen a different site to build on, currently owned by Orex, at Higgins Road and Shafer Court.
Stephens said DHL was concerned about ground conditions, as the village is still working to obtain No Further Remediation letters for the Pearl development site. As of Wednesday, a construction timeline for the DHL facility was not available.
Rosemont will also embark on the first phase of a large-scale project to replace streetlights in the village with modern, LED models from H & H Electric Company. Trustees approved an approximate $1.68 million payment to the company to remove 91 existing lights and install 118 in the Scott Street subdivision this year. This area represents one of about 28 lighting systems in Rosemont, village staff said.
“We will get to them as the budget allows,” Stephens said.
