Public Safety Graduation and Recognition Ceremony
A graduation and recognition ceremony was held the evening of March 7 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center by the Rosemont Public Safety Department.
It was an opportunity to honor 36 new graduates of the Auxiliary training program, and to announce promotions and present service awards for current members of the auxiliary and department.
Chief Donald E. Stephens III congratulated new auxiliary members who completed their two-month training program. Training was conducted on weekends by Public Safety members.
The top three class members, recognized as top recruits based on test scores, participation, leadership, and instructor input, were: April Markowski, followed by Eric Palmer and Joe DiFronzo.
Service plaques were presented for veteran auxiliary members. Recognized were 30-year members John Rich, Frank Perfetti, Kenneth Schmalzer and Tonino Carraverra, and 20-year members James Karas and Michael Planthaber.
Within the auxiliary, promotions were also announced: to corporal, Nicole Lopez, Jerome Jurek and Mike Bianchi Jr.; and to sergeant, Mike Planthaber, Steve Drews and Thomas Van Vleet.
In other departmental promotions, James Hoffman was sworn in as a Public Safety sergeant and Lyle Richmond, Blake Fiorito, and Ronald Muich were sworn in as lieutenants.
Also participating in the program were the Public Safety Honor Guard, and the Rev. Robert Schultz of St. Beatrice Parish, who gave the invocation.
The audience, of nearly 250 people, included Mayor Brad Stephens, village trustees Roger Minale and Ralph DiMatteo, Village Clerk Debbie Drehobl and Police & Fire commissioners Augie Sansone Sr., Grant Bailey, Rick Paloian and Steve Price.
