This year’s US Tour is presented by the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) in partnership with the Gracias Choir and admission to the Cantata is absolutely free.
Although this is the seventh time the Gracias Christmas Cantata will be performed in Chicagoland area, the September 25th show will be one of the biggest yet, bringing new music, expanded stage sets, and vibrant themes at the Rosemont Theater 4400 seat. Boris Abalyan, the Gracias Choir Conductor, is an Honored Artist of Russia and Choral Conducting Professor at the St. Petersburg National Conservatory of Music. As a renowned world class choir the Gracias Choir has performed for capacity audiences and heads-of-state around the globe. On 2014 the Gracias Choir was awarded the Grand Prize at the Riva del Garda International Choral Competition in Italy and First Prize at the Montreaux Choral Festival in Switzerland. On 2015 awarded the 1st Prize and Romantic Choral work at the 14th Marktoberdorf choral competition in Germany. The Gracias Choir continues prove itself to be one of the best choral groups in the world.
“No matter where we go, we see the impact music and the Christmas spirit has on the audience,” said Taehyoung Kim, Gracias Choir deputy director. “Most people would say that Christmas is only a day in December, but we’re showing people everywhere that it’s a time of joy where peace and happiness can replace the difficulties and hardships of daily life. It replicates how Jesus Christ brought hope into this world through his birth more than two thousand years ago.”
The Gracias Christmas Cantata boasts a very diverse repertoire—the nativity scene in Bethlehem to cherished Christmas carols for the family and a Handel’s “Messiah” as a finale. Those who attend can expect to see a moving opera, a contemporary musical play, and a coral ensemble, all on one stage. The Gracias Christmas Cantata does not just entertain; it leaves a lasting impression of Christmas joy and hope in people’s hearts, regardless of where or when it is performed.
