Wounded Warrior Ride A Success
On Friday, June 26 dozens of wounded veterans and their supporters, wearing cycling jerseys, shorts and helmets, rode for the annual Wounded Warriors Projects Soldier Ride.
The 18-mile route began at Rosemont's fire station on River Road, police escorted the riders as they weaved through Des Plaines and Park Ridge and ended at The Ballpark at Rosemont, where the veterans played a softball game against members of Rosemont's public safety department.
Village residents including Rosemont day campers came out early to wave American flags and cheer them on.
Event organizers with the Wounded Warrior Project say one of the goals of the four-day series of cycling events is to encourage physical fitness and healthy living among veterans -- especially those who may not be that physically active anymore.
